Mt Field National Park is one of Tasmania's most loved national parks. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such a diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations.

  • Departs Hobart Travel and Information Centre - 8:30am (20 Davey Street)
  • Drive along the Derwent River and learn the history of this rich agricultural region. 
  • Enjoy morning tea with plunger coffee/herbal tea and fruit
  • Arriving at the Mount Field National Park, we drive the rustic roadway to the Mount Field ski fields. 
  • First off, we wander the alpine shores of Lake Dobson, continuing on a 2hr return trail to view Lake Seal from the Mawson Plateau. Returning via the Pencil Pines of the Pandani Grove Walk. - this 6km return trail involves some short, but steep uphill sections with some loose rocks. 
  • We enjoy lunch in a mountain shelter overlooking the Broad River Valley. 
  • For the afternoon we visit the iconic Tall Trees and Russell Falls before hitting the road home.
  • This 1hr trail takes us under huge tree ferns and giant eucalyptus forests, some of the tallest trees on earth!
  • We aim to be back in Hobart at 5:30PM with complimentary accommodation drop-offs.  


Walking time: 3-4 hours | Walking distance: 10KM 

Terrain; Sub-alpine, mixed forest, rain forest, ski fields. 

Track Rating: 3 - Some steep sections, loose rocks, exposed, partly board walked with signed tracks.

Maria Island is a special place with something for everyone - historic ruins, sweeping bays, rugged cliffs and mountains, and remarkable wildlife. Laying just off the East Coast, the island is easily accessed by ferry. Once on the island, you will discover a place where there are no motor vehicles, no shops and no worries.

  • Tour departs the Hobart Travel and Information Centre (Corner of Davey and Elizabeth St) at 8:15AM
  • For guests meeting us in Triabunna, please meet out the front of the Tribaunna information center by 9:45AM
  • Enjoy a morning Tea/Coffee at the ferry marina as we view the map and give welcome to the Island.
  • Start the day with rural farmland and coastal drive to the fishing town of Triabunna, board the scenic Encounter Maria Island Ferry, offering sweeping views along the way and if lucky, dolphins, seals, whales, and sea birds.
  • Spend the morning walking to the Fossil Cliffs (1.5-hours loop), enjoying the views of Bishop and Clerk and watching the local wildlife in their natural environment. Kangaroos laze around in the open grazing lands.
  • Explore the World Heritage-listed convict station of Darlington, learn the fascinating stories of convicts at the edge of the world.
  • Picnic lunch will be served inside convict 'mess hall', on the penitentiary balcony or another pretty spot along the way. 
  • The afternoon will be spent walking to the vibrant Painted Cliffs (1.5-hour return) and learning about the rich natural and cultural history of the island. Get up close with the unique patterns of this pretty sandstone outcrop. 
  • After the walk, relax by the beach and keep an eye out for more wombats and kangaroos!
  • Guided by qualified eco-guides, you will experience 'Maria' like a local. 
  • Return to Hobart around 5:30 - 6 pm, traffic depending.

Please note: due to the nature of this tour, we ideally require a minimum of 3 people for the tour to operate.
