Discover artworks scattered like treasure along our 1.2km walk trail through ancient forest. Feel inspired by Country and creativity when you wander through Australia's leading art in nature experience - a nationally unique treasure hunt for the gems of the Southern Forests region within Western Australia's stunning South West. Featuring over 90 sculptures, music, stories and poetry created by artists from across the globe, Understory is a feast for the imagination.


LOCATION

Conveniently located at the Northcliffe Visitor Centre within the Northcliffe Forest Park. Northcliffe is approx 4.5 hours drive south of Perth.


OPENING HOURS

Understory is open 9am-3pm daily.


WHAT'S INCLUDED

A comprehensive 'Treasure Map' (Trail Guide) and a series of audio tours are included in the entry fee. These enrich the experience through artist interviews, insights into local Aboriginal heritage and information about local flora, fauna and landscape. The Trail is a self-guided, easy-walk circuit. It's child and family friendly. 


GROUPS
Groups are welcome. See group discount rates (for up to 10 people). We have different rates for adults, concession and children.


GUIDED TOURS

Guided tours can be booked through the www.understory.au website. Our guides are local artists and environmentalists with nearly 20 years of experience interpreting the Understory trail for visitors.


PAINTED TREE GALLERY

Enjoy the latest exhibition at the Painted Tree Gallery (near the trailhead) before or after your walk.

Understory is a love-letter to the forest developed by the local community in 2006, and has been evolving ever since, with new artworks added to the trail every year.

Understory exists to inspire a shared passion for environmental conservation & human creativity through a nationally unique opportunity to experience wonder and awe in the beauty and diversity of Nature.
